The Walkerton Capitals #2 Team would play it’s first home
game of the year and the opponent would be the Walkerton Capitals#1 team. The Friday evening tilt would be a hard
fought and entertaining game between the 2 rivals.
The Walkerton #1 team would be first to score the after a rebound was fired into the back of the net, just before the 3rd minute of the opening frame. The 2 teams would each play a hard game in each zone, however as the period was winding down West Hunt scored off a breakaway to tie the game with .50 seconds remaining.
The game continued at a fast pace throughout the second period and each team had good scoring chances only to be turned away by fine goaltending on both teams. Walkerton #1 would again regain the lead when a clearing attempt would bounce to the front of the net and on to the stick of a pressing forward before beating our goalie 6:00 into the period. The Walkerton #2 team would again score late to tie up the game when with 10.8 seconds remaining, Matthew McNaughton fired a shot five hole after taking a pass from Travis Goll.
The third period and the game was still tied at 2.2. Our Walkerton #2 team jumped into the lead for the first time when Travis Goll beat the goalie with a hard wrist shot. Assists were credited to Logan Bradley and Mason Lina. The game was back and forth and Walkerton #1 tied the game up when a hard wrist squeaked through the pads of Talan, with just under 4 minutes remaining. The teams played out the remaining time with a few chances each but neither was able to score the eventual winner.
The games was hard fought from the opening puck drop to the final whistle. Hats off to the 2 goalies Talan Hope and Keaton Bowman who each made several key saves throughout the game.The Walkerton #2 Capitals team remains undefeated at 2-0-1 early in the season. We now have a bit of a break before our next game, time to practice some more plays.
