The Walkerton Capitals travelled to Drayton on Sunday,
October 23rd to play the Drayton Defenders Black #2 team, as the
mini road trip to start the season continued.
Walkerton would score its first goal just 2:24 into the frame when Carson Baglole made a end to end rush and scored a goal with a strong wrist shot. The 2 teams would each have a few good scoring opportunities to score but fine goaltending and defensive play would have the Capitals leading 1-0 after the first 10 minutes.
The Capitals would continue to pressure the Drayton net early in the second period and were rewarded at 1:54 when Carson Baglole scored while on a breakaway after taking a pass from Jack Walter and Talan Hope. Carson completed the hat trick just over 2 minutes later when he took a pass from Owen Young and Matthew McNaughton. The Capitals would then run into penalty troubles but were able to escape the period with a 3-0 lead.
The third period and again the Capitals had a lot of jump to start the period. The scoring would occur when Owen Young went up the ice and picked up a lose puck and drove to the net and fired a hard wrist shot at the Defender’s net. The puck made it through the goalie pads but it sat behind him only to be tucked in by Jack Walter. The Drayton team continued to pressure throughout the period and were able to break the shut out with a goalmouth scramble. Not to be outdone Walkerton would score with 4:30 remaining on a goalmouth scramble of their own as Mason Lina slid the puck under a group of players, assist credited to Wes Hunt. The scoring would conclude with 2:55 left when Matthew McNaughton took a pass from Seth Young and sent a shot into the corner beating the Drayton netminder.
The Capitals played a strong game and were rewarded with some good passing and puck control. The defence played well throughout but no more then when killing penalties. Talan Hope made several key saves when called upon.
