Silver Stick in Kincardine - December 27-28, 2013
Walkerton Capitals Novice Rep team participated in their first ever Silver Stick Tournament over the holidays in Kincardine.

Walkerton came into the tournament knowing they were up against some great competition.  The Capitals team showed amazing determination and team work throughout the weekend.

The Capitals first opponent was the Kincardine Kinucks whom have easily handled Walkerton in all their meetings this year.  The Walkerton kids came out flying in the first period and kept the Kinucks to a 1-1 tie with a goal by Jake Zettler that was scored on a rebound by a great end to end effort by Ethan Smith.  The Walkerton team locked down key Kincardine players through the entire game, only coughing up one more goal which would be the winner for Kincardine.  The coaching staff was proud of the Capitals play and effort thorough all 3 periods of play.  Player of the game for Walkerton was defencemen Ethan Smith.

The Capitals were back on the ice only 2 and a half hours later to take on the Mitchell Meteors. Walkerton came out flat and tired, but kept the game within reach until the last 2 minutes of play.  The game would end 4-0 for the Meteors.  Player of the game was Capital goalie Ryan Hinsperger who made many great saves and kept the score from being higher then what it was.

Walkerton was back on the ice Saturday to take on the Ayr Flames.  This was a closely matched game, with both teams having great chances and their goalies coming up with big saves.  Cody McIntyre was first to score for Walkerton on a great second effort goal, assisted by Ethan Smith.  The Capitals second goal was scored on a rebound by Ryan Graul, assist from Josh Dales and Ethan Smith. The game would end in a 2-2 tie, a great game by both teams. Player of the game, who was chosen by the Ayr coaching staff was Josh Dales.

Player of the tournament for Walkerton was Ethan Smith. Great effort was put forth by all the Capital players this tournament, Walkerton again shows that they are getting better every week by working hard, practicing hard and playing as a team.

Walkerton would like to congratulate the Kincardine Kinucks for winning the Novice B Silver Stick Championship and thank for their Organization for hosting the tournament.  See you next year, we'll be there!
