Silver Stick Results - Off to a Good Start!
The 26th Annual Kincardine Regional Silver Stick Hockey Tournament began Thursday, December 27th, and Walkerton Legion Pee Wee Boys started off with 2 wins on opening day.  The Pee Wee 'B' division includes 10 teams, and 4 will move to the semi finals  Saturday night after round robin play concludes.  Walkerton plays again Saturday at 12:30 in Tiverton against the BCH Bulldogs.

The opening game for Walkerton was against the Mount Forest Rams.  A penalty free game with lots of action at both ends,  (yes you read that correctly - a penalty free game!!!)

Walkerton continued to pressure the Rams in the first period but could not beat the goaltender, and likewise Christian Kieffer insured no goals in the Walkerton net.  Sam Lowry Young would finally put Walkerton on the scoreboard with a blistering slapshot from the blueline, assisted by Scott Eddyvean.  This was the incentive the team needed to tally 3 more goals to take a comfortable 4-0 lead midway through the 3rd period on goals by Austin Kelly, Dakota Weiler and Evan Visser.  Assists by Ryan Girdler, Drew Cobean and Hunter Zettler (2).  Mount Forest was not ready to give up yet and replied with 2 goals, but the boys dug in and walked away with a 4-2 victory.

Game 2 Walkerton meets the Mitchell Metors, who in league play split a win and a loss earlier in the season.  The boys were ready for the tiebreaker!  Walkerton led 2-0 after the first period.  Noah Leslie found the tip from Lowry-Young's shot and Brenden Hinds added to the lead assisted by Nick Fairminer.  Mitchell came back with a vengence to narrow Walkerton's lead until Sam Lowry-Young found the back of the net again from the blueline.  Evan Visser would score on a shorthanded effort to give the fans a little breathing space, but Mitchell would not be outdone and replied to move within 1 goal again with 2:37 left on the clock.  Tasting a second victory the team gave it all they had against a very determined opponent and ended up with their second
win (4-3) of the day.

As the tournament continues the competition and anxiety will increase for all the participants.

GO CAPITALS GO!!!!  ....and remember that the first goal is to have fun!!!
