The Walkerton Capitals Midget Girls played a home game on Saturday, January 26th, 2013 at 5:30 p.m., against West Huron. The Capitals played a high tempo game and skated to a 3-3 tie even though they carried the majority of the game.
Leah Kittel paced the offence with a
hat-trick and Alyssa Inglis picked up the tie in the pipes. Even though the Capitals were controlling the
game they found themselves trailing 3-2 late in the third. Kittel completed her hat-trick to salvage a
tie for the home town Capitals.
The Capitals visited
the Guelph Thunder on Sunday, January 27th at 5:45 p.m., and won 4-0 in a
penalty filled game. The Capitals opened
the scoring in the first when Maddy Wright and Destiny Berberich went in on a two
on one and Wright tapped the puck home after a nice pass from Berberich. Rebecca Rier also assisted on the goal. They stretched the lead to 2-0 early in the
second on another two on one. This time
it was Joelle Busby and Ashton Nixon with Nixon firing it home after a perfect
pass from Busby. The power play went to
work late in the second when Julie Thomson increased the lead to 3-0.
The Capitals entered
the third and continued to pour it on with numerous scoring chances but the Thunder
goalie kept the game respectful. With
the game winding down the Capitals were on the power play again when Trudy
Young tipped a shot from the point by Janelle Weber to make it 4-0. Nixon chipped in with an assist. Alyssa Inglis was solid in net for the
Capitals when needed and earned her 11th shutout of the season.
The Capitals conclude
their regular season on Tuesday, January 29th at 7:30 p.m., with a
rematch with West Huron in Hensall.
After that game the girls are off to Sarnia for the 15th Annual Women’s
Silver Stick Tournament from Feb 1st – 3rd.
They play their first game on Friday, Feb 1st at 11:35 a.m., against
Brampton. Their second game is Friday
night at 10:00 p.m., against Michigan, and their final game of the round robin
is Saturday, Feb 2nd at 10:40 a.m., against Chicago. The quarter finals are later Saturday night
with the semi-finals and final scheduled for Sunday, which hopefully the girls
are playing.
