The Walkerton Midget Girls Capitals advance to the Provincial Championship in Ottawa from April 4th - 7th with a 2-1 win at home over South Huron Sabres on March 5th at 9:15 p.m. In a penalty filled game the Capitals managed to knock out the pesky Sabres which guaranteed the Capitals a berth in Ottawa. This was an even game and was scoreless after one period with both teams exchanging some good scoring chances.
The Sabres opened the scoring late in the second when they
converted on a 5 on 3 power play with Nicole Kaumanns jammed one home for the
visitors. The Capitals responded quickly
a minute later when Leah Kittel got a break and scored from behind the net to
even the score at 1-1 going into the third.
Julie Thomson and Joelle Busby picked up assists. The Sabres played hard in the third and had a
few quality scoring chances but Alyssa Inglis was up for the challenge and shut
them down. With the game winding down
all the Capitals needed was a tie to move on so The Sabres pulled their
goalie. Missy <st1:ST1:PLACE w:st="on">Adams
won the draw in the Capitals end back to Janelle Weber who flipped it up the
middle of the ice. Thomson beat the
Sabres defender to the puck and deposited the puck into the empty net giving
the Capitals a 2-1 victory.
With the win the Sabres were sent packing and the Capitals are
