The Walkerton Midget girls hit the road on Sunday, January 13th at 3:45 p.m., for a rematch with the Kitchener Lady Rangers. This was another exciting game that came down to the wire with the Capitals salvaging one point with a 2-2 tie.
With the loss from the Guelph tournament
still fresh on their minds, the Capitals came out flying and dictated the play
but couldn’t find the back of the net.
However, it was the Rangers that gained the upper hand when they
capitalized on a power play late in the first period to go up 1-0. The Rangers increased their lead to 2-0
midway through the second on a shot from the slot. The second period was winding down when
Destiny Berberich jumped on a loose puck in the neutral zone and went in on a
two on one with Missy Adams. Berberich
passed the puck over to Adams who fired a shot on net. The Rangers goalie made the save and left a
juicy rebound that Berberich deposited it in the back of the net to make it 2-1
going into the third.
The Capitals carried the momentum into the
third and were all over the Rangers for the majority of the period but again
couldn’t get the equalizer. They pulled their
goalie with less than a minute left and with some hard work down low by Julie
Thomson and Joelle Busby, Adams got the puck at the left side of the net in
tight and fired a backhand shot that beat the Rangers goalie on the glove side
with 24 seconds left. That tied the game
at 2-2 and the Capitals left with a well deserved tie.
The Capitals are at home on Saturday,
January 19th against Windsor and on the road Sunday, January 20th against West
Huron in Clinton.
