The Walkerton Capitals Kinettes Midget Rep Girls were gracious hosts on Saturday, December 29th at 5:30 p.m., against West Huron. The Capitals carried the majority of the play but it was West Huron that earned a 2-0 win.
The Capitals took it to West Huron in the first but couldn’t
bury one and the first ended 0-0. West
Huron managed to generate a rare fore-check in the second period and Jennifer
Baer was left alone in the slot and fired a low shot to the stick side that alluded
Alyssa Inglis for the Capitals. Karrisa
Eckert and Hailey McIntyre assisted on the goal. The Capitals continued to control the play in the second;
however, West Huron’s goalie was a wall that the girls were unable to
crack. With the second winding down,
Kassidy Eckert, of West Huron jumped on a turn over in the neutral zone by the
Capitals and went in on a break away on Inglis. Eckert made no mistake and put in five hole along the ice to give
West Huron a 2-0 lead heading into the third.
Not much happened in the third and when the Capitals did get
a shot, West Huron’s goalie was there to shut the door. West Huron left town with the shut out win
and can thank their goalie as the Capitals out shot West Huron big time.
The Capitals will kickoff the New Year at the Guelph
Tournament this weekend with their first game on Friday against Caledon.
