The Walkerton Capitals Kinettes Midget Rep Girls lost a close one at home to South Huron on Saturday, December 15th at 5:30 p.m., 2-1.
The Capitals opened the scoring in the first with less than
2 seconds left on the power play when Missy Adams went roof daddy with a bullet
to the glove side. Julie Thomson and
Leah Kittel chipped in with assists.
That lead was short lived when South Huron tied it up on a power play of
their own early in the second. This
game looked like it was going to end in a tie as the game was winding down with
about one minute left. However, South
Huron had one last rush and with their player going wide on the right wing she
fired a backhand towards the net. The
puck bounced before hitting the goalies stick and some how trickled in for the
game-winner.
The Capitals hit the road on Sunday, December 16th for a
5:45 p.m., tilt with the Guelph Thunder.
The Capitals regained their winning ways with a penalty filled game
1-0. Missy Adams supplied the offence
again with a dart from the slot to the top corner and Alyssa Inglis earned the
shut out.
This game was like watching paint dry for two periods. But after the Capitals scored it seemed as
if a switch went off in the referees head in the third as he sent the Capitals
to the penalty box 7 times with minor penalties. The girls played basically short handed the entire period. The coaching staff were baffled by the
referee and his calls and thought he was wearing a Thunder sweater. Nonetheless, the Capitals held off the
Thunder (and the referee) and escaped with the victory.
The Capitals are on the road before Christmas on
Saturday, December 22nd when they travel to Zorra and have a rematch with South
Huron on Sunday, December 23rd.
