Walkerton Capitals go 1 and 1 in the South
The Walkerton Capitals Kinettes Midget Rep Girls fell to the Lakeshore Lightning (Essex) on Saturday, December 8th at 3:00 p.m., in Essex 3-1.

The Lightning struck early in the first period and carried that lead into the second.  The Capitals managed to tie it in the second.  Rebecca Rier and Haley Fischer out battled a Lightning player in the corner.  Fischer scooped up the loose puck and found Destiny Berberich alone in the slot.  Berberich fired a shot along the pond and beat the Lightning goalie on the stick side.  The Capitals slowed in the third from their 3 ½ hour drive to Essex and the hometown Lightning took advantage and scored late in the third for a 2-1 lead.  The Capitals pulled their goalie but the Lightning sealed the victory with an empty net goal with less than a minute left for a 3-1 victory.

The Capitals travelled to Windsor for an afternoon tilt with the Windsor Wildcats on Sunday, December 9th.  The Capitals were short three players which included their goalie, Alyssa Inglis.  The Capitals found their legs for this game and were all over the Wildcats like spilled milk and clawed out a hard fought 1-0 win.  Cassidy Becker was called up from the Bantams to tend the cage and earned the shut out.

This game was filled with penalties as both teams found themselves shorthanded throughout the game.  Needless to say the coaches were more than wild about the officiating as the Capitals racked up 18 minutes in penalties.  At one point Coach Wrighter was so upset he considered going “Dufferin” on the referee but thought better of it.  Instead he offered the referee a sausage.  Despite the questionable calls the Capitals dominated the game and had numerous scoring chances but just couldn’t beat the Wildcats goalie.

With the Capitals on the power play late in the third and in the Wildcats end, Janelle Weber, fired the game winner from the point that found the back of the net.  Joelle Busby and Julie Thomson drew assists on the goal.  The Capitals improve their league record to 8 wins, 3 losses and 1 tie.

The Capitals are at home on Saturday, December 15th against South Huron at 5:30 p.m., and off to Guelph on Sunday, December 16th for an afternoon game.
