Atom Girls/ Novice Girls, 2011-2012 (Walkerton Minor Hockey Association)

The Knights of Columbus Atom Girls competed in the Second Annual St. Catharines  Female Hockey House League Tournament January 20-22. During the three games played the much improved Capitals played their best hockey of the season.   In their first game of the tournament Walkerton faced off against the Ayr Rockets. Victoria Shaidle was solid in net for the Capitals shutting out the Rockets for two periods. Alyssa Turbull broke the scoreless tie with a goal at the 2:35 mark of the third period to put Walkerton ahead 1-0.  But the lead did not hold up as Ayr scored twice in the final 90 seconds, ...

The Walkerton Novice/atom Girls ran their unbeaten streak to three games with a 3-2 win over Normanby on the weekend.The win comes on the heals of a 0-0 tie with Durham and a 1-1 tie with Blyth/Brussels. Nicole Schmidt, Allyssa Turnbull and Emma Fortney have been the top offensive contributors during the streak. Victoria Shaidle has done a great job keeping the puck out of the net allowing just three goals in the last three games. Victoria sealed the win over Normanby with several break away saves in the third period.

The Novice/Atom Girls proved they are improving with every game in a 6-2 loss to the Owen Sound Ice Hawks in Owen Sound. The score was not a good indication of how close the game was as the time of possession seemed to be relatively equal betweeen the two teams.

Emma Fortney scored twice and Victoria Shaidle earned a shutout as the Atom/Novice Girls defeated Durham 2-0 in Walkerton on October 16. Fortney's goals came halfway through the second and third periods after a scoreless first period. Assisting on the goals were Keely Clarke and Melissa Laird. The win improves the team's W.O.A.A. record to 1-1.
