Novice/Atom Girls Show Much Improvement Versus Owen Sound
The Novice/Atom Girls proved they are improving with every game in a 6-2 loss to the Owen Sound Ice Hawks in Owen Sound. The score was not a good indication of how close the game was as the time of possession seemed to be relatively equal betweeen the two teams.
Walkerton came up short on several scoring opportunities in the first two periods and fell behind 4-0. But the Capitals hard work paid dividends in the final fifteen minutes as the two teams tied 2-2 in the third period. Emma Fortney assisted on Alyssa Turnbull's goal at 11:51 of the third period making the score 4-1. Fortney then added a goal of her own when she won a face off in Owen Sound's end and flipped the puck over the goalies shoulder with 1:50 remaining in the game.
The Capitals also did a great job when short handed killing off both of their penalties. Victoria Shaidle was solid in goal once again for Walkerton.
