It's been a while for an article.
To the parents of the local league 2 boys there has not been an article for a while so I thought i would write one before our next big game.
As you all know our last entry was about the great effort to bring home a championship from paisley. Well you all have been their since and if you havn't well here's the story.
On februaury 23 the boys travelled too kincardine for the second meeting of the playoffs where in both our coaches and theirs would be the deciding game of the playoffs. With no lack of effort our group fell short 3-1. With a fresh loss in the heads of the young men they went to practice knowing in the back of thier minds or at least the coaches that they would have to win out the rest of the round robin to advance.
We are know at the 26th of feb. and what seems to be a daunting task the boys took to the road for a three game stent out of walkerton.First stop was Lucknow and with an even tilt through and through we came out on top with a narrow 3-2 victory. Not the warmest of wins but we'll take it. Although we won there was no time to celebrate, for we needed to jump in our parents cars and head home for a short sleep and prep for an unknown Mitchell team. After a forgiving drive from mother nature at this time of year we made it to monkton for another heart felt win with a score of 3-2 as well. As one coach put it is 3-2 a lucky score for us. who knows.
With the third in a row on the road this would be the most difficult task of all travelling to bayfield for a 7:15pm game on a school night of all things. Now up to this point I couldn't exactly remember what happened in the games but i do know we came out flying with a burst of 2 goals in the first 6 minutes of the game. Although we let the opposition back into the game we came out with a win over an extremly confident and nearly unbeaten team 4-3.
Finally the parents of a road worthy team didn't have to stop at a pump and empty thier wallets to go to another game, WE'RE HOME. With the first home game in over 3 weeks the atoms came out to play for the home crowd. Facing a league rival in wingham which dodged us for the final game of the season 3 times the boys were flying. with an all out attack of passing and skating finally as a group wingham had no chance. with a final score of 4-1 that made it 4 in a row and the hope of a woaa championship was still alive. Know up untill this point we thought it was between walkerton and kincardine but little did we know that bayfield was quietly sneeking up the back stairway in more contention than us. Which sets up the next and second last home game of the playoff round.
Here we go with a lot on the line the atom team including the coaching staff knew this was the final and deciding game of the round robin playoffs( or so we thought again) With a blistering start to the game our boys threw everything at the bayfield team with complete passing, full out skating and non stop forcheck pressure and pinching from the d fence. But surcome by the gods of hockey they just couldn't put the puck in the net after 15 shots.
The second period found the boys getting a little frustrated with no luck in the first the feet stopped moving for 10 minutes which left us with bayfield scoring. Off to the third we go. after a stern talking too the gentlemen found thier stride again in the third. Without a lack of effort we fell short to a score of 1-0. With a record not in the favour of our team we needed some help from the kincardine team and not in a positive way. Later on in the day i recieved a call from coach stating that kincardine lost and we were back in the hunt.
With three games left and bayfield sitting with 15 points we have to win the last games to tie. The final of two meetings with lucknow was a must win situation and the team didn't dissapoint. With an all around effort from everyone we came out with another win and a decisive one at that. We are know 4 points back to tie with two games left and I know our boys can do it. Bring it home fellas.
On another note I have no choice but to brag about my son Austin recording his first career hat trick I mean no disrespect to anyone else but i did not have the facts to present properly to everyone who scored or assisted on the score board in our amazing run. Oh and by the way keep up the outstanding work on everyones behalf and please for the love of god keep austin grounded!!! HAHAHAHAHA.
