The Walkerton Kinnette Midget B girls travelled to an early season tournament and came home with the silver
The Walkerton Midget Kinettes travelled to Mitchell for tounament play on Friday
Oct 23rd. In the first game they met up with an evenly matched Norfolk team. In
the first period Norfolk led the scoring with the first goal of the game. Becky
Busby answered this with Walkertons first goal, assisted by Colleen Parks and
Lesa Kittel, ending the period in a 1-1 tie.
Walkerton pulled ahead in the second as Becky
Busby scored her second goal. Assisting was Kittel and Allison Elphick. This
gave Walkerton a 2-1 lead to end the second.
In the third period Norfolk managed to get one
past goaltender Emily Golem, ending the game in a 2-2 time.
In Game 2 Walkerton faced off against Ilderton.
Again fans saw an evenly matched game. Ilderton scored the first goal in the
first giving them a 1-0 lead. In the third period Chantale Bourque put the
Kinettes on the scoreboard to tie the game with assists going to Shae Busby and
Jasmine Richardson. The game ended in a 1-1 tie. Katie Grubb stood strong in net
for Walkerton.
On Saturday evening the team met up with
Brantford, needing a win to advance to the Sunday finals. The girls dominated
the game with the first goal scored by Bourque, assisted by Shae Busby and
Richardson. Lauren Smith followed this with her 1st goal of the game being assisted by Shae
Busby and Bourque. Parks ended the 1st period with Walkertons third goal,
assted by Becky Busby and Kittel in a 3-0 lead.
In the second period the Kinettes continued
their assault on the Brantford team as Smith scored her second goal of the game.
Assist went to Shae Busby and Kittel. Becky Busby added to this with a goal
assisted by Shae Busby and Kittle giving Walkerton a 5-0 lead. Christina Kaufman
scored the final goal of the game assisted by Katie Pegelo. Emily Golem earned a
well deserved 6-0 shutout in net for the Walkerton Midgets.
Walkerton advanced to the finals to once again
face off against Ilderton. This time Ilderton dominated the game scoring 15 seconds into the 1st and never looked back winning 4-0. The girls played hard all game and had Ilderton take all the penalties in the game, they Kinnette girls couldn't get one past a very good Iderton goalie Katie Grubb guarded the twine in this game
