The Midget B Rep girls only gave up 2 goals in four games to capture the Tourney
The Walkerton Kinette Midget `B' girls fought hard to bring home the gold this
past weekend in tourmament play in Stratford. The girls faced off against
Milverton in the first game on Friday the 13th. In the first period Walkerton
led the scoring as Jamine Richardson fired in her second goal of the year assised by Lauren
Smith and Shae Busby. Walkerton led 1-0 after the first and second period. In
the third period Milverton came on strong scoring twice to win the first game
with a 2-1 loss for Walkerton. Emily Golem played a strong game in net for
Wakerton.
The Kinette girls met up with North York on
Saturday for game two of tournament play, with Walkerton dominating the ice for
the game. In the first perild of action, the game looked evenly matched as
neither team could score on their opponent, ending the period with no score.
Walkerton picked up the pace in the second with the first goal on the
scoreboard scored by Lauren Smith,her third, assisted by Shae Busby. Colleen Parks added
two more goals,3rd and 4th of her campaign, for Walkerton with assists going to Becky Busby(2), and Alison
Elphick ending the second period in a 3-0 lead. In third period action Chantale
Bourque,with her 8th of the year,widened the lead with an unassisted goal to make it 4-0. Elphick, her first of the year, scored
the final goal of the game assisted by Parks and Becky Busby, ending the game in
a 5-0 win. Katie Grubb earned a shutout,her 4th of the year,in net, giving Walkerton the advance to
the semi-finals on Sunday morning.
In semi-final action the girls battled off against
the evenly matched Belmont team for a fight to the finals. Fans were awarded
with end to end action, and goaltenders being challanged throughout the game.
Walkerton started the scoring in the first period with a beautiful goal by
Colleen Parks, assisted by Becky Busby and Alison Elphick. Walkerton led 1-0 at
the end of the first and second period. In the third period Becky Busby,
assisted by Parks, scored the final goal, giving Emily Golem a well deserved
shutout,her 2nd of the year, for the Walkerton Kinette team.
In the finals the girls met up with Tiverton, for
another exciting game. Goaltender Katie Grubb, was challanged constantly in net,
and the teams penalty killing skills were interrogated throughout the entire
game. In the first period Alison Elphick tipped one in for Walkerton to start
the scoring assisted by Parks and Becky Busby. Walkerton led 1-0 after the
first. The second period saw alot of great chances and end to end action with
great oppourtunities, but no scoring. Walkerton continued a 1-0 lead. In the
third period aggressive play continued. Christina Kaufman with her 3rd this year,scored assisted by
Katie Pegelo, to give Walkerton a 2-0 win and a well deserved shutout for
Grubb.
The Kinettes continue regular season play as they
face off against Tiverton on Tiverton`s turf, on Wednesday Nov. 18th at 8pm, and
back in Walkerton for a home game on Thursday Nov. 19th at 8:30 against Owen
Sound.
