Godfathers Perform Well In Stratford
Great first Tournament

This past weekend the Godfather PeeWee rep girls played in the Stratford Tournament. They began play on Friday afternoon by playing the always strong team from Woodstock. It took till the third period when Woodstock scored on the powerplay.Woodstock would continue to lead until the last minute of play when Walkerton pulled their goalie for the extra attacker and scored the equalizer with 15.9 seconds left.Their second game of the tournament was against none other than their league rivalals from Kincardine. After a hard fought opening period Walkerton tallied 3 straight unanswered goals to seal the 3-0 victory.Their third game Godfathers were up against Stratford.Godfathers took only 29 seconds to tally the first goal andwent on to score 4 more for a 5-1 victory. This win gave the girls first place in the pool.
They now moved on to play Clairington in the semi finals.Clairington was a big and very aggressive team. This at times seemed to catch the locals a little off guard as Clairington opened the scoring part way through the second period but Godfathers evened it up before the period was over. The girls then scored 2 more for a 3-1 win and moved on to the finals. In the finals the locals were once again up against Kincardine. It seemed to take a couple of periods for the girls to get their mojo going as Kincardine kept the pressure on.In the third however the girls seemed to find another gear and started creating scoring chances. After a couple of great saves by the Kincardine goalie on 2 breakways and a couple of hit posts by the local girls the game ended tied at 0 in regulation time.Off to overtime and after a couple of great chances for either team Kincardine was able to sneak one in for the victory. It was a great game as either team could have won.Congradulations Girls and Kincardine on a great final game.
On the weekend it should be noted that Goaltender Alyssa Inglis was very sharp.Alyssa only gave up 3 goals in 5 games. This was possible due to the great defensive zone coverage of the whole team. The defence pairings of Em Daurio and Maddy Wright,Melynda McKenzie and Lindsay Dales was stellar through out the tournament as they also contributed to the offence. The fire works up front were created by Em Haight,Des Berberich,Nellie Spitzig,Nik Lemont,Leah Kittel,Joe Busby and Sarah Biesenthal. The coaches were impressed with the grit, determination, speed and sportmanship the girls displayed.Good work girls on a job well done.
