Godfathers Qualify For Provincials
The Godfather PeeWee girls have been very busy in the last month.
When the season started seven months ago the Godfather PeeWee B Girls were asked by their coaching staff what they would like to achieve this season.The girls informed us that they wanted to quailfy for provincials.Well they did just that.With the top 2 teams moving on from Region "O" the girls certainly had thier work cut out for themselves.With strong teams in the area from Mitchell,South Huron,Stratford and Kincardine they were able to come out with a 4-1-3 record and were able to qualify along with Kincardine.All the games in the playdowns were tightly contested which should come to no one's surprise.
This past weekend the Godfather girls competed in the WOAA year end tournament.With 2 pools in the Maroon division we were in with Goderich and Kincardine.In the other pool was Mt.Forest,Markdale and Saugeen Shores.The first game was played against Goderich on Friday night and Godfthers came away with 2-0 victory.The girls played a very good defensive game.Next on the agenda was their provincial qualfying partner Kincardine.As all the games that have been played between these two teams this year and yes there has been many,it could only be expected to be a close game.Kincardine was able to get on the board first and lead 1-0 till part way through the third before Lindsay Dales bent the twine on the power play.With the score tied at 1 the play continued to be back and fourth as it had been all game and in fact all season.With just over 2 minutes left to play Kincardine managed to sneak another one in and that goal stood as the game winner 2-1 for Kincardine.That left the girls a little dejected but after a talk in the dressing room with the coaching staff they left in good spirits and were going to come back on Sunday to start a new winning streak.The oppostion on Sunday in the B side final was Markdale.The girls knew it would be a tough game as Markdale to has qualified for provincials.It was a good game as Godfather's Nik Lemont scored one in the first from Leah Kittel and Joelle Busby.In the second Sarah Biesenthal scored from Emalee Haight and Maddy Wright.Final score 2-0.This gave the girls the B side Championship.
This group of young ladies being Alyssa Inglis,Maddy Wright,Melynda McKenzie,Nik Lemont,Destiny Berberich,Sarah Biesenthal,Lindsay Dales, Leah Kittel,Emalee Haight,Joelle Busby,Emily Daurio and Danielle Spitzig have been a joy to coach.The Sportsmanship and Respect they show to each other and the oppostion goes unmatched.They are true ambassador's for Walkerton Minor Hockey and their town and we can wish them all the best as they head towards the Provincial Championship later this month.
