Cuneo Atoms Take Gold
Cuneo Atoms met for their first match up in an early morning pairing against the Mildmay Monarchs.  The first period Mildmay was very successful in keeping a very determined Walkerton Cuneo team at bay, with quick forwards and a job well done by a skilled goal tender.  However with less than four minutes in the second period, Cuneo saw their opportunity for their rush at the Mildmay goal; Christopher Cormack drove the puck through the Mildmay defence with Mackenzie McTeer driving with him.  Christopher Cormack took a quick shot at the goaltender, who made the save, knocking the rebound back out into play where McTeer was positioned; MacKenzie took the shot before the goaltender could recover and our first goal was had.

Mildmay was quick to recover with their own goal 2 minutes later.  By the end of the last period, both teams were left at a one one tie; sending the first game of the tournament into over time.  Walkerton Cuneos were determined not to lose their first game of the tournament, and with less than 2 minutes left in the 3 minute overtime, Christopher Cormack shot the game winning goal past the Mildmay goaltender.
Cuneo's second game was going to be a challenge.  Kincardine had been a strong team in this Cuneo team's recent past, and again we are paired against them.  Cuneo had to be strong enough in this game to tear down the Kincardine forwards, and in this game Walkerton was able to conquer that issue.  With strong lines in the defensive end by McTeer, Wagner, Lang and Kunkel, Kincardine's forwards were halted every time but twice.  Cuneo forwards were able to knock in four of their own goals throughout the game, goals by Jordan Dahms, Christopher Cormack, and an absolutely beautiful goal by Quinn Tremble.  Assists by MacKenzie Mcteer and Connor Johnson.  Leaving the second game in the history books as another win for Cuneo Atoms, moving them into the Championship game.
At the end of the day, it was the Walkerton Cuneo team against the returning champs, Mount Bridges.  Mount Bridges team proved themselves all day during the tournament that they were determined to bring the trophy back home.  However our Walkerton team had other ideas.  Cuneo Atoms, its safe to say, that each one of these players played the game of year during this game.  Every player had a hand in this win and all of them played the best each of their parents had seen.  Walkerton had the mindset to come out hard and fast, and that is exactly what they did.  Scoring was started off a minute and a half into the first period, with a quick dart to the net by forward, Christopher Cormack, who got the scoring started for Walkerton.  And that was the way the game went.  Exactly one minute later passes from Connor Johnson  and Jordan Dahms to MacKenzie McTeer, from the point MacKenzie shoots, and scores number two for Walkerton.  The first period was very busy for Walkerton, with additional goals by Christopher Cormack, MacKenzie McTeer, and Connor Johnson, with an assist for Jordan Dahms.  The second period Mount Bridges mounted their assault on the Walkerton Goaltender, Calder Davidson, who throughout this tournament was a wall that proved at times insurmountable.  He played with skill and a keen eye on the puck, keeping Cuneo in the game.  Mount Bridges did find their way through our defences, and by our goalie three times during the second period, however Walkerton didn't give up and answered back with one of their own from Christopher Cormack; giving us a comfortable three goal lead into the third.
With both teams playing with everything they had the third period was left only one goal being scored by both teams.  Early in the third Jordan Dahms was able to find a very well positioned Connor Johnson who knocked in the final goal of the game.  Leaving the score, Mount Bridges three and Walkerton seven.
This win gave the Walkerton Cuneo Atoms the championship trophy in this tournament,  Congratulations Cuneo Atoms!
