Midget Rep Girls off to a great start.
The Kinette Midget Rep girls participated in a tournament in Mitchell and played three terrific games.

They started the tournament off against a familiar foe from last year, Ilderton. The Ilderton team is again strong this year and after a slow first period in which Walkerton failed to register a shot, the Kinette girls picked up the pace and took it to the Jets. The second period ended scorelesss and Walkerton pressed for the winner in the third but to no avail and the game ended in a 0-0 tie. Katie Grubb earned the shut-out.
Their second game pitted the girls against the Flamborough Sabres. The girls came out flying in this game knowing they were going to need some goals to advance to the finals after Ilderton posted a 10-1 score in their second game. Walkerton's first goal of the year came off the stick of Ashton Nixon after Ash picked the top corner on a very tough Flamborough goalie.Jocelyn King and Shae Busby registered assists. The girls kept the pressure up, but were unable to score again but did win the game 1-0. Grubb earned the shut-out.
Knowing they were in need of lots of goals in their third game,(due to a tie breaking system of goals for/against) the short-handed Walkerton girls were pumped and ready for Brampton. Down to two lines due to work commitments, the girls really sucked it up and took a 2-0 lead in the first on goals by Lauren Smith and Becky Busby. Smith and Bec assisted each other with Alison Elphick earning an assist on Becky's goal. The score remained 2-0 after the second but the Kinnette girls exploded for 6 goals in the third to make the final 8-0. Scoring for Walkerton in the third were, Becky Busby with 2 goals and an assist,Smith with a goal and 2 assists, Hayley Fischer with 2 goals, Elphick with a goal and assist, and single assists going to Claire Tomlinson, Nixon, and Shae Busby. Grubb earned her third shut-out in 3 games. Despite not giving up a goal in the tournament, the Walkerton girls failed to qualify for the final due to the format of goals for, minus goals against, thus Ilderton edged them out by 1 goal.
Their next tournament is in Kitchener in two weeks.
