Midget Reps Have Solid Start to Season
The Walkerton Capitals Midget Rep team started their new season with an encouraging win in Durham on Oct. 12 , then played to a draw against a strong Mildmay team on Oct. 18 at home.

he Tuesday night game in Durham got off to a fast start, but the scoreboard would remain blank for most of the period until the final five minutes when the home team scored on a scramble in front of the Walkerton net. With less than a minute to play, the Capitals tied the game on a penalty shot by Cory Paulitski.
Moving into the second, the visitors kept the momentem strong and moved into the lead on a marker from Eric Elliot, assisted by Jake Barclay. Moments later, Barclay notched his own goal on a passing play from Paulitski and Josh Busby. A fourth point would follow when Logan Kritz scored on assists from Matt Engel and Patrick Walsh to move the Walkerton squad into a 4-1 lead. Unfortunately this was short-lived, as Durham responded with three more goals of their own to force a third period showdown.
The pace of the game increased in the third as each team fought for the lead, but ultimately it would be Paulitski , with Busby and Barclay , who would net the go-ahead goal and lead his team to their season-opening win.
On Monday Oct. 18 the boys laced up against the Mildmay Monarchs in a hard-fought contest at the Walkerton Community Centre.
The home team opened the scoring in the first period with Barclay beating the visiting netminder on passes from Paulitski and Keagan Engel. The scoreboard remained the same until midway through the second when the Monarchs moved into the lead with back-to-back goals. Within minutes, the Walkerton team closed the gap with their own pair of goals; the first from K. Engel with an assist from Paul Gill and a second marker for Barclay which was unassisted. Mildmay would score again before the period was out to enter the third with a one-goal lead.
Early in the third period, the Capitals tied the game on a solo goal to the top shelf from Gill, then one minute later took the lead when Walsh scored on passes from John Ringel and Elliot. Despite great goaltending from netminder Chris Flett, the visitors were able to tie the game at the seven minute mark and turn back all efforts by the Capitals to net the winner. The Midgets settled for the tie and will return to action on Sunday Oct. 24 against Mitchell.
