Joys Bantam Rep Boys take 3 of 4 points
A pair of friendly exhibition matches between old rivals resulted in
the Mildmay Monarchs skating away winless and the Joys Boys enjoying a
3-3 tie at home and a solid 4-2 victory away.
The first game
occurred on Mon.Nov.9 with fast paced action across the board as both
teams fought hard for the lead off goal. Success would go to Walkerton
when Adam Lindblad scored late in the first with an assist from AP
Mitchell Eckert and defenceman Paul Lindblad.
Tensions rose in the second as the game became more physical and the home team applied
continued
pressure on the Mildmay defence. The power play proved valuable when,
midway through the period, winger Patrick Walsh hit the mesh after a
nice passing play from Caleb Diebold and Adam Lindblad. Just over a
minute later Walkerton would move into a three goal lead when Lance
Rock snapped an off the board pass from John Ringel and Brendan King
into the open corner of the net.
The final fifteen minutes of
the game saw a determined Mildmay team refuse to give up and the home
squad seeing their lead diminish and eventually disappear as the
visitors tallied three goals of their own. A last minute push held hope
for the win but was scuttled by the
persistent Monarch defence.
The rematch was held the following Sunday in Mildmay and proved to be another exciting
contest at both ends of the rink. Walkerton would again open the scoring with a goal from
Rock
and an assist from defenceman Callum Schaus. Mere seconds later the
opposition netted their first marker of the game to tie it up but Max
Barclay would go on to score off passes from Diebold and Cole Alexander
to move the team ahead by one. Another Walkerton goal by Patrick Walsh
unassisted gave the boys a clear lead only to see Mildmay end the
period with their second goal.
Second period play revealed more
of the same physical action witnessed in the first as the tight score
kept each team focused on the win. Several close calls had fans out of
their seats but eventually Walsh would double his output for the night
with help from call-up
Chase Louther and forward Adam Lindblad.
Carrying a two goal lead into the third, the Capitals remained cohesive and rebuked the
advances of the strong Mildmay offence. Walkerton goalie Wes Cameron was exceptional at
stopping
multiple shots on net while clean checking by his team mates served to
wear down the opposing skaters. The period would end as it began
to provide a hard earned win for the
boys in blue.
