Joy's Bantam Boy's Break Even
Walkerton Joys Bantam Boys broke even with a win, tie and a loss in recent O.M.H.A.
play.
On Oct. 29 the boys travelled to Goderich and came home with a 2-2 tie.
John Ringel gave Walkerton the early lead in the first from a clean
pass off Max Barclay from behind the net, the other assist going to Lance Rock. Goderich overtook the lead
with two goals midway in the second but another pass by Max Barclay to Cam
Wagner tied it up in the final seconds of the period. Despite tough
battling and great opportunities the team was left scoreless in the
third.
The following Sunday, the Joys Boys returned to the
lakeshore this time to take on the Saugeen Shores Storm in a close 4-3
win. John Ringel once again opened up the scoring in the first with assists
from Brendan King and Adam Lindblad. In the second, Lindblad scored
twice with assists from Cal Schaus and Cole Alexander and then Cal Schaus and Patrick Walsh, but
the Storm answered with two goals of their own to narrow the lead.
Another goal from the opposition leading into the third tied the game
but Max Barclay would ultimately net the winner for Walkerton with another
assist going to Patrick Walsh.
The next evening the team played
host to the Kincardine Flyers and suffered their first loss of the
season in a 1-0 heartbreaker. The opening period saw fast skating and
physical contact from both teams with great chances at both ends of the
ice, but no scoring. An
unfortunate penalty in the second gave Kincardine the power play and the
only goal of the game. The remainder of the contest was filled with
action as the boys rallied for the comeback only to be shutout by the
visitors.
