McIntee Atoms Win Durham Tournament
written by Andy Cormack
On Sat. Jan 9, the McIntee Atom Rep team took part in the annual Durham Atom tournament.  The team won all three of their games and took home the championship trophy.

In their first game, the boys played Drayton, winning 5-3.  Goal scorers were: Jake Spitzig (2). Evan Visser, Carter Buehlow and Christopher Cormack.  Credited with assists were: Calvin Wilson (3), Buehlow (2), Spitzig, Dorian Charrette and Noah Leslie.
The second game, the boys were pitted against league rivals, Goderich.  In a closely contested game between two evenly matched teams, the Walkerton boys triumphed with a 2-0 victory.  Brayden McKenzie and Dakota Weiler were the goal scorers with Cormack getting an assist.
In their final and championship game, the boys played Flesherton.  While Flesherton opened the scoring, a determined Walkerton team tied the game mid-way through the third frame.  Evan Visser scored the tying goal, assisted by Buehlow.  The game winner was scored by Jake Spitzig after he was awarded a penalty shot with 1:43 remaining in the game.  Showing grit and with Aiden Quish making some game saving stops, the boys preserved the win.  Buehlow scored an empty net goal to make the final 3-1.  Aiden Quish was selected as the deserving MVP for the game.  Congratulations, boys!
The boys will travel to Listowel on Sunday Jan. 10 to play the Cyclones and prepare for the playoffs.
