Novice Rep Tryout Information

This article is intended to outline what kind of players we are looking for, how the tryouts will unfold, and how you and your child will be informed on the progression in the tryouts.

***I suggest you prep your child on what we are looking for.***

We are looking for players that have a sound skill base (including skating, shooting, passing), energetic, aggressive, and have a good sportsman-like behavior.

We will be having four tryout sessions.  I have a group of evaluators giving me input into each players abilities.  Each session will focus on Skating and Shooting, with a little passing mixed in.

The first tryout session will be a free skate for everybody.  There will not be cuts at the end of this tryout.
The second tryout session will be tough.  We will be looking for players that have a strong fundamental base of skills and are able to follow instructions.  There will be cuts made after this tryout.
The third tryout session will be difficult on all the players.  We will increase the intensity of the drills.  We want to see players that can handle a little pressure.  In addition to the drills from the previous two tryouts, we will be running some team concept drills (2 on 1’s) and a scrimmage.  Cuts will be made after this tryout.
The fourth tryout will be a game against Hanover, in Hanover.  We will be looking for players that can play their position, be aggressive, and have a good sportsman-like behavior.  It is not how many points a player gets in this game that matter, but how the overall performance is evaluated.

At the end of each tryout, please hand in your jersey.  At this time, you will be given an envelope.  In this will be a letter stating if you are invited back for the following tryout, or if you have not made it to the next tryout.

****Please open these envelopes at home, not at the arena.****

On the final tryout, I will give a letter stating whether you made the team, or are released back to Local League.

I will give you a copy of this letter at the first tryout.

Thank you,
Greg Bester
