Borgford hat-trick and Bester first career goal lead Leo Al Contracting Pee Wee Girls LL to solid win.
The Leo Al Contracting Pee Wee Girls LL team travelled to Howick to take part in Hockey Day in Howick.  Coming off a strong performance at the New Hamburg tournament Walkerton was geared up and ready to play.

The game started off tight with end to end action.  Then at the 5:38 mark, after several chances, Courtney Borgford drilled the puck home for her first goal of the game.  With some great goaltending by Dana Borgford, the period finished with a 1-0 score.

The 2nd period saw Walkerton come out confident and determined.  Great defensive play by Samantha Smillie, Emily Elliott, Moira Robertson and Justine McTeer kept a determined Howick at bay.  At the 7:40 mark Brina Hudson made a cross crease pass to Taylor Bester.  Slamming the puck home, Bester netted her first ever career goal.   A mere 25 seconds later Courtney Borgford found the net for her second of her goals.   After more end to end action Samantha Holliday snapped the puck off an offensive zone faceoff deep into the net.   Great back-checking and defensive zone work by Jenna Elphick, Trinity Wand and Brook Leask helped break up several scoring chances by the pressing Howick team as the period wound down.

The third saw more scoring chances by Howick, but it was Courtney Borgford’s shot from high in the offensive zone that slipped past the Howick netminder.  Not to be outdone, Brina Hudson stole the puck and found a hole to the back of the net just 42 seconds later.  Walkerton worked hard to hold the shut out for the outstanding Dana Borgford performance, but Howick managed to just trickle one in at the 4:07 mark.

This was an outstanding team performance by a team that has impressively improved its game throughout the year.  A well deserved 6-1 win for every girl on the Leo Al Contracting team.
