Silver Stick Dec 28th & 29th
It is that time of the year again when the Silver Stick Tournaments are on.  Teams from all over the region compete for the prestigious title of Silver Stick Champion second only to All Ontario Champions.  This year our Bantam Boys faced Tavistock, Hanover and the host team Kincardine in the opening round.

    Game #1 vs. Tavistock Loss 6 - 2.

Our first game in and we were facing a relatively unknown team except in reputation in Tavistock.  Tavistock was a well organized fast team who took the game to our boys right away.  Tavistock opened the scoring first at the 7:20 mark of the 1st period and then followed it up quickly with another at the 6:53 mark.  However at the 1:47 mark we got one back on a goal from Tyson MacLennan with an assist going to Bailey Zettler.  The second period was scoreless until we got into some penalty problems late in the period and with 58 seconds left to go Tavistock regained their 2 goal margin.  In the 3rd at the 8:19 mark Tyson MacLennan netted his second to bring us within one again.  However with just over 3 minutes to go in the game in a brief laps of concentration Tavistock netted two goals in 10 seconds to put the game out of reach.  They got one more in the last minute to claim victory.

    Game #2 vs. Hanover Loss 6 - 2.

Our second game was against our closest neighbour Hanover.  In an almost penalty free match, the game was close back and forth with Hanover scoring first half way through the first.  Then Half way through the second we tied it up on a nice deflection by Tyler Goetz from a Liam Robertson point shot.  Hanover came right back taking the lead just 9 seconds later on a miscommunication between the goal tender and the defense.  However 43 seconds later we tied it up again with Tyler Goetz getting his second assisted by Matt Lang and Ryan Young to take a tie into the 3rd.  However a silly penalty at the end of the second cost dearly as Hanover was quick to score 55 seconds into the PP to take the lead and deflate the boys. They netted 3 more before the end of the game as our boys had nothing left in the tank, and Hanover claimed victory and eliminated us from going on in the tournament.

    Game #3 vs. Kincardine Loss 9 - 1.

Although being eliminated the prior evening our boys had the opportunity to play spoiler to the host Kincardine team.  However after tieing Tavistock 1 - 1 the day before Kincardine needed to win and win big against us to have a chance of advancing themselves.  Short a goalie and a defenseman put our boys behind the eight ball before the game started, however losing 9 - 1 doesn't quite justify that excuse.  We scored one goal at the end of the second Ryan Young netted his first of the tournament on an assist from Matt Lang.  Kincardine scored 3 in the first 2 in the second and 4 more in the third to finish the schooling.
