OMHA FINALS #REDHATS
On Wednesday, February 27 the Walkerton Capitals began their journey in the OMHA semi finals against South Huron Sabres.



The game was intense and both teams came out strong ending the first period with no goals scored. The second period started out much the same as the first but, 8.27 into the second period Connor Heaney, short handed, managed to land the puck into the back of South Huron's net, making the caps the first on the score board. The two battled back and forth for the remainder of the game until South Huron pulled their goalie with 2 minutes left in the game. 20 seconds after the goalie was pulled Ryan Fleischauer fired on the empty to give the Caps a 2-0 lead. South Huron kept their goalie on the bench and 21.9 seconds left Connor Heaney shot the puck into the empty giving the Caps a 3-0 win to start the series.

Game 2 took place on home ice and the stands were full!
The Caps were the first on the score board early in the game when Ethan Smith scored 1:56 into the game.
Early in the second period South Huron scored twice giving them a one goal lead.  Our Caps didn't give up and Lucas Rowe continued to face lots of shots between the pipes. Korson Schmidt shot the puck from the blue line with 1:23 left in the second to tie the game. The third period would see a few goals. Korson Schmidt scored at 5:46 followed by Connor Heaney at 11:37 giving the Caps a 2 goal lead.  South Huron fought hard in the last few minutes of the game. With 1 minute and 5 seconds left in the game South Huron managed to get one past our defense and found the back of the net. The Caps held them in the last minute not allowing them to tie it up.  The Caps finished with a 4-3 win making the series 2-0 in their favour.

Game 3 was back in Exeter and the Walkerton Capitals knew that the South Huron Sabres were definitely bringing their A game. South Huron was the first on the score board for the first time in the series. Although the Capitals had many shots on net, South Huron's tendy  wasn't allowing a goal. The first period would end 1-0 South Huron. The second period had a slow start but at 6:33 Connor Heaney worked his magic and managed to get the Caps on the scoreboard.  South Huron didn't waste any time getting a goal back to give them a one goal lead again.  Gil Schumacher sent the game into overtime when he scored with 1 minute 15 seconds left.The two teams battled back and forth and but at 6:40 into OT South Huron scored sending the series into game 4.

Game 4 was on home ice and the Capitals knew they needed to win at home. The stands were FULL, and the energy was high.  Our Capitals were PUMPED!  Connor Heaney and Gil Schumacher both scored in the first period heading into the second period 2-0 Caps.  Not long into the second period South Huron scored giving the Caps a one goal lead.  The two teams would battle back and forth but the period ended 2-1 Capitals.  Both teams came out on fire in the third with many shots on net. Lucas Rowe stood on his head and kept the Caps in the game finishing 2-1 Capitals.
