Capitals sitting in third place
The Walkerton Capitals bantam LL boys are sitting in third place in the Maroon North loop at the halfway point of the opening round of the playoffs.

The Capitals have 5 points after posting a 2-2-1 record to date in the first round. West Grey is in second place with 6 points, but all teams are trailing the first place Saugeen Shores squad, which has 12 points.

Walkerton’s 1-1 tie came Feb. 10 on the road in Shallow Lake. Jacob Girdler scored the lone marker for the visitors, assisted by Kyle Romphf and Scott McTeer.

The local boys then lost 4-2 at home Feb. 11 against the skilled Saugeen Shores team. Walkerton’s goals were scored by Ryan Graul and Tayt Weber, while assists went to Luke Schmidt, Girdler and Romphf.

The Capitals fared better on Feb. 25 when they skated to a 3-1 win over the Kincardine Kinucks #1. Braydan Grife, Graul and McTeer scored for the home team, assisted by Girdler and Kody Brown. Ryan Hinsperger picked up the win in net.

The bantams are back on the ice today, traveling to Southampton to face Saugeen Shores at 7:15 p.m. The playoffs continue with games in Kincardine on Sunday and Monday, and the first round will wrap up for Walkerton at home with games on Tuesday and Thursday.
