McTeer scores twice for Walkerton
Scott McTeer scored twice for the Walkerton Capitals on Nov. 18 to lead the bantam local league boys to a 3-1 win in Ayton over the West Grey Warriors #1.

Team captain Kyle Rompf opened the scoring in the first period, with McTeer adding to the tally in both the second and third frames. The home team’s lone goal came midway through the second, spoiling the shutout for Walkerton netminder Ryan Hinsperger.

The Capitals followed up the win with a 5-3 loss at home Nov. 20 against the Kincardine Kinucks #2 squad. Walkerton was also winless in three games at the Hespler Classic Hockey Tournament the weekend of Nov. 30 – Dec. 1, but the boys skated hard against some strong city teams.

The Capitals rebounded Dec. 6 with a 3-2 victory at home over the Kincardine Kinucks #1. Aragon Karn put Walkerton on the board with a hard shot from the blue line early in the second. Rompf made it 2-0 halfway through the period, scoring on a pass from Dylan Reay, but the Kinucks got the next two goals to even the game at 2-2.

Jacob Girdler scored the game-winner, assisted by Cobi Johnson, in the dying seconds of the third.

Walkerton now has 4-6 record in regular season action, good enough for seventh place in the north division’s 13 team league. The boys’ next game is Sunday, Dec 9 in Kincardine against the third-place Kinucks #2.
