Championship Game 3 vs. Listowel
And the winner is…………………………………...................................................…

The third and deciding game in the 2019 White Championship would take place on Saturday, March 23, 2019.  The Capitals would play in Listowel for the second time and were looking for similar results as in Game 1.

The two teams would come out quickly in the first period.  The Capitals would pressure the Cyclones early and would pepper the Listowel net with quality shots.  The forwards were hard in the corners and used the cycle to near perfection but the young net-minder was solid in the Listowel net.  Walkerton’s Caden Chapman was called upon to make some outstanding saves and he to was up to the task.  While the Capitals would hold possession in the Listowel zone for a good part of the period it would be the Cyclones who would open the scoring with just two seconds remaining in the period.  Listowel would lead 1-0 after the first 10 minutes of play.

The second period would again see the Capitals come out quickly, when just 33 seconds into the frame Cody McIntyre would take a pass from Kyle Graul and beat the goalie to tie the score.  The Capitals would continue to press and would take the lead while on the power play when Cody McIntyre would centre a pass from behind the net to Ben Eddyvean whose quick release found the back of the net with 5:25 remaining.  The scoring would continue when Jack Walter would jump on a rebound and lift the puck into the top portion of the net, Kyle Graul would pick up an assist on the play.  As the period would come to an end Walkerton would hold a 3-1 lead.

The third period and the pace hadn’t slowed up even a little.  The teams would play solid two way hockey and again test the opponents net-minder.  Walkerton’s Seth Young, was strong in the Walkerton net.   Listowel would pull its goaltender for an extra attacker and would score with 1:32 remaining to pull within a goal.  The ensuing face off would see the puck dumped into the Walkerton zone but after a brief stint in its end Cody McIntyre would carry the puck into the Listowel zone before finding the empty net.  Walkerton would score a second empty net goal when Callum Dupuis would keep the puck in the Cyclones zone and fire the puck from just inside the blue line.  As the find seconds ticked down the bench would erupt in cheers and stick banging and as the final buzzer sounded the players poured onto the ice and swamped each other in celebration.

The two teams would be presented with their medals by an OMHA official before presentation of the championship trophy.  The boys would the pose for a group photo as well as many of the boys would take their time with the trophy while on the ice.

A special thanks must be extended to Head Coach, Mark Dupuis, Assistant Coaches, Mike McIntyre, Gord Schmidt and Andy Kaufman and Team Manager, Luann Kaufman for the many hours of work and commitment to this years team.  Its been a pleasure and I am sure the players and their parents will remember your enthusiasm and hard work for many years to come.
