Playoff Game 1 vs. West Grey Warriors
The Walkerton Capitals playoffs would start a
day later than originally planned after the Saturday morning game was postponed
due to weather concerns. The Sunday
game would be played between the Capitals and the West Grey Warriors. The game
would be an exciting closely contested match that was played with end to end
action and outstanding goaltending.
The first period would see each of the two teams have several scoring opportunities but the two net-minders were equal to the task. As period would continue Walkerton would press and control much of the play but would be unable to beat the Warriors net-minder. The period would end in a scoreless 0-0 draw.
The second period would see much of the same from the two teams. The Capitals would, however, find themselves running into some penalty troubles but some great defensive work and strong back-checking from the forwards would see the West Grey opportunities limited. The Capitals would again get several great scoring opportunities but would be unable to beat the goalie. The game would remain scoreless after two periods of play.
The third period and West Grey would open the scoring just 30 seconds into the period after sliding the puck into the net on a break away. Walkerton would respond when Cody McIntyre would unleash a hard snapshot from the high slot that would find the back of the net. The two teams would continue to battle back and forth but even with an extra 5 minute over time period there would be no more goals scored. This game featured great plays from both teams and Walkerton’s next game will be against the same Warriors team this time with Walkerton as the visitors.
