Game 17 vs. Shallow Lake #2
The Walkerton Capitals would travel to Shallow Lake on
January 26, 2019 to play the Lakers #2 team.
The Lakers would score in the opening seconds when a face off in the Walkerton zone was pulled back to the defence man whose one timer found the top corner. On the ensuing face off the Capitals would dump the puck into the Shallow Lake zone, where the Capitals players would work the cycle to perfection. Walkerton’s Colby Schmidt would jump upon a loose puck and lifted it over a sprawled Lakers net-minder, assisting on the goal were Kyle Graul and Cody McIntyre. With each team scoring a goal in the opening minute it had the potential to shape up to be one of those games. Shallow Lake would then score just before the half way point of the period. With that go ahead goal Shallow Lake would take a 2-1 lead into the second period.
During the second period the two teams would battle along the boards and in the corners. Each team would have some outstanding scoring opportunities but better goaltending would prevail and the score would remain 2-1 as the teams prepared for the third period.
In the third period the Lakers would score 4 times just over halfway through the period. The Capitals Logan Bradley would score with just over 2 ½ minutes remaining assisted by Mason Lina but that was as close as Walkerton would get.
Walkerton was in this game more than the score would indicate. While they controlled a good bit of play in the Lakers zone the boys had a hard time hitting the net and when they did the Lakers goalie made some great saves. Walkerton can take away from this loss, however, that its passing game was accurate and precise, the cycle is improving with each game and it has cutback dramatically on the penalties that it has taken lately.
