Playoffs Game #1 vs. Kincardine Kinucks #2
The first game of the 2018 WOAA playoffs would see the Walkerton Capitals play host to the visiting Kincardine Kinucks (Presto Crest) #2 team.  The two teams finished first and second overall during the regular season and were separated only  by a single point in the standings so both teams were expecting a close game.

The first period would see each team start at a tentative slower pace.  Walkerton would find itself killing off a penalty less than 30 seconds into the game.  The Kinucks would test the Walkerton net several times early but Ryan Hinsperger was up to the task.  The two teams would go back and forth and Kincardine would open the scoring with just under 4 minutes remaining.  The Capitals would tie the game with 43 seconds remaining when Tyler Wallace would beat the glove hand of the Kincardine goalie after taking a pass from Cobi Johnson and Kody Brown.  The first period would see the two teams tied at 1 a the buzzer sounded.

The second period would see both teams come out with a much faster pace to start the game.  Walkerton, Ryan Graul would score just before the 2 minute mark, assisted by Tyler Wallace and Connor Farrell.  Walkerton would continue to pressure the Kincardine net and again would be rewarded when Cobi Johnson would jump on a rebound and bury it behind the Kincardine net-minder, assists were credited to Kody Brown and Liam Osborne.  The scoring would continue when Carson Filsinger would fire a hard wrist shot stick side-top shelf to increase the Capital lead.  Walkerton would lead by a score of 4-1 after two periods of play.

The third period and Walkerton would again come out very quickly when Carson Filsinger would find a loose puck and fire it into the back of the net just 15 seconds into the period, assisting on the play were Jack Walter and Cayleb Peitz.  Kincardine would battle back and score three and a half minutes into the period to cut into the Walkerton lead.  Walkerton would respond when Tyler Wallace would score unassisted while the team was short handed.  The teams would battle back and forth as the period would continue but no further scoring would occur.

The first game now in the books.  The coaching staff will work on the positives of this game and try to improve on the things that needed some work.  The passing game improved as the game went on as did the skating.  The team will need to stay out of the penalty box in future games and continue to work on its back-checking.
