Game 10 - Shallow Lake Lakers
The Walkerton Capitals would play the first of its weekend games by travelling north to Shallow Lake to take on the Lakers on Saturday, November 25, 2017.  The game would feature the high scoring Capitals continue their winning ways through a solid game from the opening puck drop until the final buzzer.

The Capitals would come out flying and would be rewarded in the opening minute with some fine passing between Connor Farrell and Tyler Wallace who then sent the pass back to the blue line where Xander Thornton fired a hard wrist shot that beat the Lakers goalie. Walkerton would score its second goal at 2:49 into the period when Cayleb Peitz took a pass from Liam Osborne and slid the puck passed the Shallow Lake net-minder while on the power play.  The scoring would wrap up with 1:30 left in the period when Kyle Romphf send a high wrist shot over the glove of the goalie after taking a pass from Cobi Johnson.  Walkerton would lead 3-0 after the first 10 minutes. 

 

The second period would have the two teams start off quickly each testing the oppositions goalie who were both up to the task.  The young Lakers net-minder would make several outstanding saves to keep his team in the game.  Just over half way through the period Walkerton would score when Cobi Johnson took a pass from Cody Brown and found the back of the net.  With 2:22 remaining in the period Kyle Romphf would tally his second of the game with the assist being awarded to Colby Schmidt.  Walkerton would lead 5-0 after two periods of play. 

 

The third period would again see end to end action to start the period off.  Kyle Romphf would complete his hat trick with his third goal of the game, assisted by Cobi Johnson and Keegan Batte with 5:24 remaining.  A minute later Cayleb Peitz would score his second of the night after completing a three way passing play with Carson Filsinger and Liam Osborne.  Tyler Wallace would take the face off and crews into the Shallow Lake zone and slide the puck into the corner of the net a mere 12 seconds between goals.  The scoring would continue when Ryan Graul fired a shot just under the cross bar, assisting on the play was Tyler Wallace and Connor Farrell.  The fifth goal of the period would come with 1:38 remaining when Jack Walter scored after a goal mouth scramble, assists were awarded to Carson Filsinger and Cayleb Peitz.  In the final minute of play Walkerton would take a penalty and Shallow Lake would pull its goalie for a 2 man advantage.  With 48 seconds remaining a Lakers forward found the back of the net to break the shut out. 

 

The boys played well throughout the game, the passing was precise and the team used its speed in both the rushes as well as during back checking.
