Game 2 vs. Hanover Falcons #2
The Walkerton Capitals Peewee LL team would play its first regular game of the year against the Hanover Falcons #2 team on Sunday, October 15th in Walkerton.  The game would be highly contested, as both teams would battle for puck control and possession in the opponents’ zone.

The Capitals would come out quickly and be rewarded in the opening minute as Kyle Romphf would send a pass to the front of the net to awaiting Cobi Johnson who fired a wrist shot over the glove hand of the Hanover goalie just 49 seconds into the game.  Walkerton would continue to pressure the Hanover net as the period continued but the Falcon’s net minder was strong allowing nothing else past him as the period ended.  Walkerton would lead 1-0 after the first period.

The second period would start with the Capitals again coming out strong.  Walkerton would add to its lead when Tyler Wallace would slip past the Falcon’s defence and deke out the goalie and slid the puck into the open corner of the net at 4:31 into the frame.  Hanover would respond less than a minute later when a high wrist shot would catch the top corner of the Walkerton net.  Walkerton would restore its two goal lead after winning a face off in the Hanover zone Tyler Wallace would slid the puck to Ryan Graul who sent it back to defenseman Liam Osbourne who fired a shot from just inside the blue line that found the back of the net with 8:33 remaining in the period.  The two teams would each go back and forth with each team having good scoring chances only to have he goalies make several key saves.

The start of the third period would see a lot of the action played in the neutral zone with the defence of each side breaking up plays before they would cross into the opposition zone.  The Walkerton defence would be called upon as the Capitals would run into penalty issues as the period continued.  At one point Walkerton would be down to only three players vs. the Hanover five.  Walkerton would be able to clear its zone and send the puck down the ice and out of harms way again and again killing off valuable seconds from the time clock.  Hanover would score when both teams were back at full strength and 5:55 remaining in the period to again cut into the Walkerton lead.  Walkerton would the score with 4:30 remaining as Cobi Johnson scored his second of the game assisted by Kyle Romphf to again to restore the 2 goal lead.  As time was winding down Hanover would continue to pressure but Walkerton’s Ryan Hinsperger, would make several saves to preserve the win.

The Capitals would start the regular season off with a strong game.  Solid defensive play, great rushes from the forwards and outstanding goaltending were the keys to the victory.
