Walkerton falls 7-3 to Shallow Lake
Five goals in the third period powered the visiting Shallow Lake Crushers to a 7-3 victory over the Walkerton Capitals in bantam LL play on Nov. 18.

A mistake by the Walkerton-Hanover Veterinary Clinic defence led to a Crushers goal midway through the first, but Braydan Grife evened it up early in the second, assisted by Kobe Dautey.

Walkerton netminder Lucas Rowe came up save after save to maintain the tie. The Capitals continued to press but Shallow Lake went ahead 2-1 around the 6:00 minute mark. Captain Keaton Eidt kept the home team in the game with an unassisted goal near the end of the frame.

Walkerton opened the third on the power play but couldn’t capitalize. A hard shot off the stick of Tayt Weber made it a 3-2 game, but advantage didn’t last long. The Crushers scored back-to-back short-handed markers to go up 4-3. Good hustling by Nick Holman and Logan Morrison, and several big saves by Rowe kept the lead to one, but the wheels fell off for the home team after that. Shallow Lake scored three unanswered goals to take the 7-3 win.

Despite the loss, fans noted the hard work of Luke Schmidt, Tyler Crummer and Alex Kunkel on the blue line.

Walkerton is back in action on Saturday, Nov. 25 when the team visits the West Grey Warriors for a 12:15 p.m. game in Ayton.
