PeeWee Rep Boys win West Grey Tournament!
The Weber’s Electric Boys competed in the West Grey PeeWee Rep Tournament held in Ayton on Dec 3rd and they came away with the top spot in a great effort all day long!

The action started against Flesherton Goldenhawks in a very close game.  Parker Elphick opened the scoring in the second period with an assist from Jake Zettler and Ryan Graul.  Walkerton held the 1 – 0 lead heading into the third but Flesherton came back in the third to tie up the game.   Regular play ended in a tie and the game had to be decided in sudden death overtime.  With 1 ½ minutes left in overtime, Parker Elphick scored once again with assists from Connor Heaney and Keaton Rourke to end the game in Walkerton’s favour.

The PeeWee Boys faced Bruce Peninsula Northstars next who they had been unable to beat in regular season play up to this point.  The confidence boost from the first win against Flesherton was exactly what the boys needed.  The first period was scoreless in a great effort by both teams to keep the play out of their respective end.  Connor Heaney opened the scoring in the second period and was assisted by Ryan Graul & Caleb Farrell.  Austin Cormack added another goal less than a minute later with assists by Scott McTeer and Ryan Fleischauer.  Bruce Peninsula pulled their goalie late in the third period in an effort to get on the scoreboard but Gil Schumacher (unassisted) took advantage of the empty net and made the final score 3-0 giving goaltender Ryan Hinsperger his first shut out of the season.

In the championship game, Walkerton faced the very tough Wingham Ironmen in a fast paced, end to end game.  Both teams obviously wanted the trophy very much and worked very hard to get it.  Connor Heaney put Walkerton on the scoreboard first with a goal assisted by Keaton Rourke and Caleb Farrell.  The score remained 1 - 0 Walkerton until the third period when Parker Elphick added his third goal of the day with help from Connor Heaney and Keaton Rourke.  Wingham came back hard and scored two goals in quick succession.  With time running out, Austin Cormack scored the go ahead goal with 33 seconds left with assists from Keaton Rourke and Connor Heaney to give Walkerton the championship win.  Walkerton stayed out of the penalty box for the entire game which made the difference in keeping the team at full strength and allowing them to keep the pressure on Wingham.  Goaltenders from both teams were awarded with game MVP for their amazing efforts all day long to keep their teams in contention. The entire team played very well and put out a great effort and should be very proud of themselves for their impressive and respectful game play.

Team members include Andrew Al, Dylan Cartwright, Austin Cormack, Parker Elphick, Caleb Farrell, Ryan Fleischauer, Ryan Graul, Connor Heaney, Ryan Hinsperger, Scott McTeer, Keaton Rourke, Cole Saunders, Gil Schumacher, Ethan Smith and Jake Zettler.  The boys are coached by Dan Schumacher, Brad Graul, Barry Heaney and Trainer Jeff Smith.

Walkerton PeeWee Rep Boys would like to thank Weber’s Electrical Service for their sponsorship to allow them to attend this tournament.
