Three points each for Grife, Dautey and Schmidt
The Walkerton Capitals peewee LL boys lost their first playoff game Saturday, but rebounded with a win on Sunday, taking their post-season record to 3-1-1.

Sunday’s 6-3 victory over the visiting West Grey Warriors #2 was a much-needed boost for the peewees after losing by an identical score in Southampton Saturday. The Saugeen Shores Storm #2 played a stronger game on home ice than during their recent visit to Walkerton, when the Capitals skated away with the win.

With regular goalie Lucas Rowe out due to illness, Logan Morrison stepped into the net for the first time this season. He played an outstanding game for the Capitals, who scored first but couldn’t hold the lead past the second period.

Luke Schmidt, Cobi Johnson and Tyler Wallace recorded markers during the loss, with an assist by Justin Bell. It was close game going into the third, with the teams knotted at 3-3, but some mistakes by Walkerton led to three unanswered Storm goals and the Capitals’ first loss.

Walkerton rallied back Sunday morning and defeated West Grey 6-3. The visitors took an early 2-0 lead in the first but the Capitals came back in the second with three goals of their own. The line of Brayden Grife, Kobe Dautey and Schmidt was on fire, with each forward scoring once for Walkerton and picking up two assists apiece. Morrison had another strong outing in net, preserving the 3-2 lead going into the third.

In the final frame, the Warriors added one more to the board but Wallace, Schmidt and Grife also found the back of the net for the 6-3 win. Assists went to Tayt Weber and Alex Brandt.

The Capitals, sponsored by Royal Canadian Legion Branch 102, continue their WOAA playoffs on the road Monday, facing off in Lucknow against the Sepoys. Walkerton also travels to Mount Forest Saturday for an afternoon game with the Rams.
