The Walkerton Capitals travelled to Teeswater to play the South Bruce Blades in the final regular season game on Saturday, February 6.  The Capitals had not lost a game all season and they were all hoping that this game would not be the blemish on an undefeated year.

            The first period started with the Baldes taking the play and pressure to the Capitals in its zone.  The Baldes scored with just under 4 minutes left in the period.  The Capitals made a few late rushes, but as the period ended Walkerton trailed South Bruce 1-0 after 10 minutes.

 

            The second started with the two teams in a see-saw battle.  Each team had scoring chances throughout the frame but neither crossed the line to tally a goal for either side.  Walkerton’s best scoring chance occurred while the team was short handed but again the goaltending of South Bruce could not be beaten.  The period ended with no scoring and the Blades still with the 1-0 lead.

 

            The third period had the Capitals going back to basics.  The passing that has become the backbone helped to breakout several Capital players whose shots were stopped by the goalie, just wide, or ringing off the post.  The Capitals were able to tie the game up at 11:06 when Cole Saunders wrist shot found the back of the net.  The Capitals continued to pressure the Blades net but as the final buzzer sounded it was still knotted at 1.

           
    The Capitals played hard all season and were rewarded with a fantastic record of 14 wins/0 losses/3 ties for first overall in the East Division and 6 wins/0 losses in tournament play.  With the playoffs just around the corner lets keep the momentum going.
