Game 15 vs. South Bruce
The Walkerton Capitals played host to the South Bruce Blades on Tuesday, January 19th . The game was the first in over a week as 2 games last week where cancelled due to weather conditions. The fans that were in the stands for the game were treated to a fast paced, tight checking affair that was well played by both teams.

The first period had Walkerton taking control very early and they were rewarded just over a minute into the frame.  Emma O’Hagan beat the Blades goalie after taking a pass from Cody Brown. The Capitals continued to fire pucks on net and got several past the goalie only to hit posts. The period ended with Walkerton leading 1-0

The second period started and once again Walkerton was controlling the play and tempo of the game early. Liam Osborne received a past from Cole Saunders and his wrist shot beat the Blades net-minder at 1:26. The next shift and Walkerton went straight back to it’s attack game and were rewarded when Riley Harris fired a shot on net, the South Bruce goalie made a fine stop  but the rebound came straight out to Matthew McNaughton who tucked the puck into the open side at 2:21. The Blades now trailing 3-0 now started taking play back to the Walkerton zone. The defence stood tall stopping several rushes and blocking shots. When shots did get through Teghan Kauk was able to stop everything fired his way. Walkerton lead 3-0 as the period ended.

As the third period began South Bruce came out flying, again Teghan was called upon to make some key saves. South Bruce did score at 3:15 to break the shutout. Walkerton restored the 3 goal lead when Emma O’Hagan sent a hard past from the corner to Matthew McNaughton in front of the Blades net and his wrist shot beat the goalie stick side for his second goal of the night. Just 20 seconds later a South Bruce shot beat Teghan to cut the lead in half.  The two teams continued to battle back and forth but neither team would surrender another goal.

The team as a whole played a very strong game, it’s passing was top notch, and the defensive pairing were excellent in the control of the puck.  The never give up attitude was evident when Cole Saunders lost his stick but continued to hold the line with his feet and eventually his hand.
