First win for the Capitals
The first game against Saugeen Shores brings a first win for the Capitals. The Saugeen Shores team were a mix of Peewee and Bantam age girls which gave our girls a slight advantage but it allowed to girls to show what they have been learning during practices with some nice set ups and lots of passing.

The girls started strong and immediately took a run up the ice to make a shot on net within the first minute of the game. They didn’t get lucky with this one but showed Saugeen that they meant business. However it wasn’t long before Saugeen were fighting back and after a slight misunderstanding around our goal and a scramble to recover, the puck slipped into the net and Saugeen Shores were in the lead 1-0.  It wasn’t long before Walkerton were able to even up the score with a backhanded pass into the net by Emily following a pass by Briana. This was closely followed by another shot on net by Briana which this time did not make its way passed the goalie. The girls kept up the pressure with another goal by Emily following a pass from Moira and a goal from Trinity demonstrating quick reflexes as she shoots it in behind the goalie.  Briana scored unassisted with a great shot which the goalie just missed with her glove.

Second period saw the girls in the penalty box quite often and this proved to be of assistance as the Capitals managed to score another two goals while shorthanded.  This period started with Sydney B in the penalty box and ended with Briana in the penalty box. Luckily the Saugeen team were not able to maximise on any of the opportunities and the girls were able to practice their penalty killing skills. The defense team of Melissa, Moira, Sydney K and Rihanna did an awesome job of keeping the puck in our end.

The start of the third period gave for some entertainment as the puck landed and stuck in the top of Sydney B’s skate and play stopped while it was recovered. The Saugeen team came back onto the ice in this period with determination and kept the Capitals away from their net. Maddie managed to get a run after a pass from Megan followed by a shot on net and the Saugeen team fought back with a couple of shots on our net. Keely was able to stop these showing proof that she had not got bored and fallen asleep. The game ended the same as it had seemed all the way through, shorthanded team (Briana was in the penalty box) and Emily scored after a pass from Maddie. Final score 7-1
