Bantam Girls Win Gold Medal in Clearview Tournament
The Walkerton Bantam Girls attended the Clearview March Madness in the Valley Tournament at the end of February and skated home with the gold medal.  The team battled hard in all four games and played very exciting and entertaining hockey.

Walkerton met up with a strong Mount Forest team for their first game.  Mount Forest opened up the scoring and were leading at the end of the first period.  Once Walkerton finally got settled, they managed to tally two goals and win the eventual contest 2-1.  Once again strong play by both teams having good scoring chances only to be stopped by key goaltending saves.  Scoring for Walkerton were Bailey Thompson and Stephanie Young.  Adding assists were Madi Hickling, Jenna Fotheringham and Bailey Thompson.  MVP of the game was awarded to Stephanie Young.

Our next opponent was a strong and determined Sudbury Team.  There were numerous battles and physical plays that kept the Walkerton girls on their toes.  The girls had to battle and play defensively for a majority of the game.  Once played settled down the girls fought hard for a 2-2 tie.  Scoring for Walkerton were Stephanie Young and Katie Schmidt.  Adding helpers were Bailey Thompson, Madi Hickling and Brooke Schnurr.  MVP for the game was Katie Schmidt.

Walkerton then met Grand River.  The Walkerton team got back to their style of hockey and played a great team game.  Hard work and fast skating led to a 3-1 victory.  Scoring the goals were Bailey Thompson, Katie Schmidt and Sophie Borho.  The MVP for the game was Bailey Thompson.

The championship game saw a rematch with Sudbury.  Both teams came to play hockey and provided end to end action.  Walkerton created many offensive opportunities and were rewarded with four goals.  The defense of Sophie Borho, Jenna Fotheringham, Brooke Schnurr and Wallis Scott provided key stops to help Dana Borgford with the shut out.  Final score was 4-0 for the gold medal.  Goal scorers were Stephanie Young with two,  Brina Hudson, Katie Schmidt adding singles.  Assists were provided by Bailey Thompson, Jazmine Weber and Madi Hickling.   MVP for the game was Brina Hudson.  Great teamwork by all to win the gold medal.
