Regular Season Begins
written by Rick Rier

The 2014/15 regular season for the Walkerton Capitals Kinnettes Midget ladies kicked off this past weekend with a dominant 7 – 2 winning performance.

Coached by Brian Busby, Doug Wright, Tom Kittel and Dennis Becker, the team travelled to Kitchener on Sunday for the Lady Rangers home opener.

Erica Parker got the call to tend the twine and picked up where she left off last season making several outstanding saves. The first period went scoreless as both teams were cautious early on. Walkerton would have a few scoring opportunities but the Kitchener goalie was ready. However, by the midway point of the second, it was 2-0 for the visitors. Kitchener would get on the board with just over three minutes remaining, but the capitals replied 7 seconds later. Not to be out done, the Rangers found a way to get one more with a girl left alone out front, make it 3-2 after two.

As we’ve seen before, the girls took the opportunity during the break between periods to plan their attack, and attack they did! Just six seconds in to the third the Walkerton ladies would score again, and not look back,  adding three more goals before the final buzzer. As well, they held the home team to just three shots on net in the third, but Parker was ready for them and closed the door.

These ladies are again playing in the “A” division of the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League, competing against; Guelph, London, Sarnia, Bluewater, Woodstock, Stratford, Saugeen Maitland, and the fore mentioned Kitchener. The girls are back in action the next two Saturday’s at home vs Stratford and Kitchener respectively
