Atom C Girls Starting to Roll
The Atom C girls are well into their season and have really started to work well together. They have posted a 5-5-1 record including a strong showing in the Stratford Aces tournament with 2 wins and 2 losses against quality competition and are coming off a solid 2 win weekend against the Bruce Peninsula Northstars and Saugeen Shores Storm.

The team experienced some growing pains early in the season as they slowly got comfortable playing together and built the stamina to endure the ice time that comes with a 10 skater team. The results of the first 3 games were 2 losses to the Grey Highlands Shooting Stars and a tie with TCDMHA. The girls put in good effort in each game and built the foundation for the rest of the season.
The first win in league play came against West Grey with an 8-0 result. Alyssa Turnbull played excellent in goal posting the shutout and the offence was carried by Emily Mason and Chloe Zettler with a hat trick each.  Rounding out the scoring were Megan Bell and Maggie Bujold.
The winning streak was short lived however as the team lost the next day again to the Grey Highlands Shooting Stars. The team came out flat and struggled most of the game which resulted in a 4-1 loss.
This past weekend the team was up against the Bruce Peninsula Northstars on Saturday. Bruce Peninsula came out strong and scored 15 seconds into the game. That woke the girls up and they went on to score 6 unanswered goals. Scoring for Walkerton was Chloe Zettler, Megan Bell, Jayda Widmeyer, Nicole Schmidt, and Maggie Bujold with 2. Emily Mason played a strong supporting role with 4 assists and while lightly tested, Alyssa Turnbull was strong in net. Leah Elphick and Maggie Bujold had exceptional games and were threatening around the net on many occasions. Bruce Peninsula added a late goal and the final score was 6-2 Walkerton.
Next up was a Saugeen Shores Storm team that was a perfect 5-0 in league play. Walkerton came out strong with Emily Mason scoring the first of her 4 goals 50 seconds into the game followed by Chloe Zettler about 5 minutes later putting Walkerton up 2-0 which carried into the 2nd period. Saugeen Shores scored early in the period before Emily Mason restored the 2 goal cushion. But Saugeen Shores scored twice more to tie the game before the end of the period. In the 3rd it was all Walkerton scoring 4 unanswered goals before the final buzzer. Emily Mason got it started with her 3rd, and 4th then Chloe Zettler with her 2nd. Kali Fischer cleaned up a goal mouth scramble and the 7-3 victory was in the books. Alyssa Turnbull made several key saves at important times of the game and the defense pairings of Nicole Schmidt, McKenna Hickling, Sonya Spitzig, and Megan Bell worked very hard to shut down the strong Saugeen Shores offense. Leah Elphick, Jayda Widmeyer, and Maggie Bujold played well earning assists and each had good scoring opportunities.

Next up for the girls is the Kincardine Kinucks Friday night at 6pm in Tiverton where the girls will try to make it 3 wins in a row.
