Walkerton Wins First Playoff Game
It was a fast paced game with lots of enthusiasm and crowd participation as Walkerton's Power Worker's Team won against West Grey 6-5 for their first victory of the playoffs.  It was a game that left everyone hanging on the edge of their seats for sure.

Walkerton got on the scoreboard quickly as Michael McAskill passed the puck to Ryan Girdler, who immediately fed the puck to Landon Moore. Landon  notched it in, putting Walkerton up by a goal.  Seconds later, it was almost a repeat of the previous play but Cody Jones  and Ryan Girdler picked up the assists.  At 4:18 West Grey netted one past Jared Pletch, making it 2-1 for Walkerton.  They continued to apply pressure and Jared came up with with some big saved through a screened shot and with a pad save. Walkerton responded with many chances of their own, but did not capitalize on them by Austin Kelly, Cody Jones and Michael McAskill. West Grey tied the game at 15 seconds left as Walkerton failed to clear their zone.  As time dwindled down, Landon Moore rifled a shot at the net.  He scored with 0.2 seconds left, advancing Walkerton once again with a 3-2 score. This was Landon's third hat trick in a row. Congratulations Landon!
The roughness and penalties increased in the second and third periods.   A cool pass from Ben Schmidt to Noah Currie was redirected by McAskill, narrowly missing the net.  At 6:53 of the second frame, a West Grey player beat Jared Pletch with a top self play to tie the game at three a piece.  This tie certainly did not deter Walkerton's players as Jayden Louther and Jordan Bester teamed up for a near goal, McAskill almost directed one in off the face off and Ty Arnold had a opportunity as a delayed penalty was called.  At the 1:59 mark, West Grey took the lead for the first time in the game.
As the third period started, you could tell Walkerton was hungry for the win.  Gina McKee, Ethan Schmidt and Brett Wagner made their presence known as well with strong defensive and offensive skills.  There were some sharp plays by all team members and a positive, go get them attitude that definitely prevailed.  West Grey scored again, leaving Walkerton two goals short.  However, the Power Worker's Team was not to be counted out. Noah Currie scored at 5:37, putting Walkerton within a goal.  Landon Moore and Michael McAskill picked up the assists.  A little over a minute later, McAskill and McKee notched another assist as Landon scored, tying the game 5-5.  The Walkerton team poured on the pressure as the feisty play continued.  With 0.5 seconds left, Michael McAskill was the hero of  the night winning the face off and taking the puck toward the corner before putting the puck in the net.  The final score was 6-5 with 0.1 seconds remaining.  The team in white celebrated their victory for their first playoff game with cheers of pride.  Well done team!  The Power Worker's Team will hit the ice on Tuesday against Mt. Forest. Come on out for a night of fun and join in the cheering.
