Atom Girls' Season Ends with Loss in Finals
The Atom Girls successful season ended on Sunday with a 2-1 loss to West Grey in the championship game of their Year End Tournament.

The Capitals advanced to the finals after a 5-0 round-robin win over Mildmay-Teeswater and a 0-0 draw with West Grey. Keely Clarke earned the shutouts for Walkerton in both games. The team got balanced scoring from all lines in their 5-0 win as Maggie Bujold, Emma Fortney, Megan Bell, Alyssa Turnbull and Maleeka Grein all found the back of the net.

The final game of the tournament saw two very evenly matched teams play their second close game of the tournament. Alyssa Turnbull put Walkerton ahead 1-0 at the 3:16 mark of the first period when she hammered a rebound past the West Grey goalie. But West Grey would score before the period ended and would add a second period goal to take a 2-1 lead.

A body checking penalty was called with two minutes remaining giving the Capitals a 5 on 4 advantage. That led to a  6 on 4 advantage when Clarke was pulled from the net for an extra attacker. The pucked bounced around the West Grey net during the final minute but did not cross the line. Walkerton had many chances but couldn't score the tying goal.

The girls finish the season with a record of 18 wins, 14 losses and 1 tie. They placed 8th out of 11 teams in their league standings and were the highest placing house league team in the league. The team had two excellent performances in tournaments; winning the 35th Annual Orangeville Tigers Sweetheart Tournament and making it to the semi-finals of the Oakville Hornets Tournament where they lost to the hosts and eventual tournament champions.

The team will see 7 players return next year while 7 will move on to the Pee Wee division.
