Leo Al Contracting Peewee Girls LL drop tough one in tournament Quarterfinal Shootout
Led by the outstanding goaltending of Pilar D and Dana B, the Leo Al Peewee girls shut out the Wilmot Wolverines in regulation time in their second meeting at the Kyla Kowalik tournament in New Hamburg on January 12.

With teammate Samantha S sidelined, the strong defensive team of Sydney K, Melissa L and Moira R kept their zone clear of Wilmot players and the puck, beating the opposition to the puck repeatedly and clearing it up the ice to the waiting Walkerton forwards.

Unfortunately, the strong offensive play of the Leo Al girls was foiled by the strong Wilmot goalie, the top Peewee goalie of the tournament.  Excellent positional play by Jenna E, Sydney B,  Maddie M, Taylor B and Lily H had them in position to score a number of times. Centres Emily E and Maddy D showed their skills in the circle by winning the face offs and getting the puck to their ready wingers, but could not capitalize on their scoring chances.

Despite many rushes up the ice and numerous scoring chances, regulation time ended in a scoreless tie. Hopes were high for Walkerton because they knew they had the division's top shooter on their bench. Trinity Wand had the trophy to prove she was the best Peewee shooter, having scored on this same Wilmot goalie three times in the skills competition.

Unfortunately, none of the Walkerton shooters were able to get a puck past the steady Wilmot goalie and one Wilmot shooter was able to sneak one over the line.  A heartbreak of a loss for the Leo Al girls in their strongest game of the season.

The Leo Al Contracting Pee Wee Girls are showing tremendous improvement over the course of this season.  You can see in each game the team get stronger and more competitive.  Hard work and the Walkerton never give up attitude are moving this team along nicely to the yearend tournament.
