Prestige Boys Claim a Victory for Their Last Game
The Prestige boys and their parents are wondering, what will we do until hockey season starts again? Don't worry...your're in luck since soccer and baseball are just around the corner.  It is with sadness and joy that the 2012-2013 hockey season draws to a close.  Thanks is extended to the talented coaching staff, the players, and the devoted fans who made it enjoyable to watch each week.
To end our season, Walkerton 1 took on the Prestige boys (Walkerton 2) on Sunday, March 10th at noon. It was a fast paced game.  The first period ended with no scoring by either team.

Prestige had notable chances from Tanner Stuempfle who drilled a hard wrist shot from just inside the blue line, Joel Pletch who skated up the left side and got a shot away that was smothered, and Noah Currie who had two awesome chances within a two minute span.  Currie's first chance was a shot dead on that was pushed aside by the goalie and the second chance was a hard shot, low to the stick side. Wonderful offensive chances Prestige boys!
Jared Pletch was very solid between the pipes. He made several unbelievable saves early in the second period and late in the third.  The second period was definitely action-packed. Jordan Lang had a turnaround shot that Currie narrowly missed deflecting in.  Nathaniel Illerbrunn and Brenden Hinds almost made some magic of their own as Illerbrunn made his way over the blue line, passed to Hinds who got a blasting shot way that the goalie gloved.  Prestige's determination was evident throughout the second period as they dominated the play.  Ryan Goetz made a direct pass to Joel Pletch at the side of the net.  Pletch slipped it to Thomas Crummer, who shot the puck just high over the net.  Solid effort boys! The sound effort continued as Lang barreled down the left wing getting another shot away. Jaden Dietz also rifled a bullet shot that was tipped by Lang and stopped by the goalie. The defense, lead by Turnbull, Dietz and Stuempfle were key in penalty killing during the period.  After a barrage of opportunities, it was Ryan Goetz who finally put Prestige on the scoreboard. Goetz backhanded it into the lower right net, making it 1-0.  Lang and Crummer scooped up the assists.  Walkerton 1 regained composure and scored, making it 1-1 in the dying minutes of the second period.
To start the third period, Hinds let a rocket shot away and then got his own rebound, scoring at 12:28 of the third period.  This made it 2-1 Prestige.  The intensity of the game continued as there was a collection of bodies near the opposing net. Amid the bodies, Ryan Goetz landed a shot that was tipped in by Jordan Lang, advancing Prestige 3-1.  Crummer also picked up an assist on the play.  At 2:22 of the third frame, Darren Rich made his way into the opponent's zone and passed to Currie. Currie's shot was stopped along the ice with the goalie's blocker. Great passing boy!
It was a clean game that ended 3-1 for the Prestige boys. Congratulations on your teamwork today and throughout the season! You boys certainly entertained us this season! Enjoy your well deserved break.
