Prestige Boys Play Hard for a Win Against West Grey 1
Walkerton's Peewee Prestige Boys ventured to Ayton for a 4:30pm match on Sunday, February 10th. The first period saw opportunities for both teams. It was not until 1:16 of the first period when Joel Pletch passed to Noah Currie, who made a sleek move. Currie's goal put Walkerton up 1-0 going into the second period. The powers that be changed the game, making the second and some of the third period lingering with a barrage of surprise penalties.  Walkerton played shorthanded most of the second period. Despite this, Tanner Stumpfle let out a bullet shot just inside the blue line at 13:55 advancing Walkerton 2-0. Jordan Lang got the assist.

Near chances by Denver Turnbull and Brenden Hinds were shut down. A glove save by Jared Pletch kept the score 2-0.  Excellent passing was shown as Darren Rich fed it to Jordan Lang, who passed it to Hinds, who narrowly missed at 9:34 of the second period. The crowd was also privy to Thomas Crummer's stick handling skills as he floor checked and maneuvered his way around several forwards and defense getting a couple good opportunities to score. Nathaniel Illerbrunn also blasted one on net and barely missed on the glove side. Amid the great scoring opportunities came many penalties for Walkerton.  Walkerton was two men down, when Ayton scored their first goal at 2:56 of the second through the five hole of Pletch. This made it 2-1 to end the second period. Strong effort by Hinds, Turnbull, Dietz and Stumpfle are to be commended with the long stretches of short handed play. Walkerton certainly displayed strong defensive skills and cool-headed offense since they played most of the second period down one one or two players.
At 11:40 of the third period, Hinds debuted his skill as he went end to end around the forwards and defense, getting a shot away. Lang couldn't capitalize on the rebound. Lang couldn't be held off the scoreboard this day. He finally scored at 5:24 of the third, giving Walkerton some insurance. Ryan Goetz's grit and persistence gave him the assist. A few minutes later, Brenden Hinds added a late goal, assisted by Lang. This ended the game with a 4-1 win for Walkerton's Prestige boys.
Hopefully, Prestige's determination can be seen as they take on Walkerton 1 tomorrow night at 6:30pm.
