Well everyone it’s that time of year again.  I’d like to start off by saying welcome back to all the players, coaches, the parents, grandparents, cousins, friends and kids of all ages.  Let the games begin!

That’s right folks the 2011/2012 hockey season is officially underway!  Time for the players to dust off their skates and the parents to rise and shine for those 7:00 am practices!  Back to those morning TIMMIES coffee runs for all the moms and dads in the stands.       With the 2010 season behind them the Atom Local League # 1 (soon to be announced a REAL team name) started of their regular season this weekend Sat Oct 15th.  With their first win against a very tough competitor and rival team the # 2 Walkerton Atom Local League team. They knew the competition would be fierce.  With team 2 bursting out of the gate and scoring first, our boys knew exactly what they were up against.  Time to turn up the heat boys!      It wasn’t long after that first goal that our very own Coleman Meyer netted one for us.  Assists went to Nathaniel (NATE) Illerbrunn and Ryan Lair.  Nice work guys!  With the score tied at 1-1 Andrew Young decided it would be better with a 2-1 lead for our little old team, and planted a beautiful shot up and over the goalie.  Assisting Young’s goal would be Austin Hogg and once again Ryan Lair.  With the period winding down the boys knew that “tight D” (tight defensive play) for anyone who may not know, was a must in order to keep their lead.  The boys did just that.  With a very strong defensive line of Michael Fortney and Austin Hogg, as well as Steven Ottewell and Daylan Hopcraft everyone knew our “tight D” was there.  There to help our BIG net minder Mr. Chase-Man Hauck the team knew everything was going as planned.       With the third period about to begin you could feel the excitement from the fans and the anticipation of the players.  So far the game, penalty free game up to this point was being very well played by both teams!  With just 15 minutes of play between our boys and their first victory, the puck dropped and they were off again!  It wasn’t long into this final period when one of our newest members of the team Jayden Dietz landed himself his first goal of the season.  Well done Jayden!  Assisting Dietz’s goal was BIG Eddy McKee and Mr. Austin Hogg awesome job boys!  Shortly after Dietz’s goal another new comer Clint Holiday put one in after a HUGE scrimmage and sticks of furry right in front of team 2’s net.  Assisting Clint on this fine goal would be none other than our very own Coleman Meyer.  What a sweet goal it was!  I do not know who is the net minder for Local League #2, however I do commend him on his valiant effort and amazing saves during this very exciting game. Job well done!      As the final minutes wore down and with one more pegged on the score board, once again by Coleman Meyer, thus giving his team a 5-1 lead.  I have to send a BIG shout out to our very own goalie Mr. Chase-Man Hauck for yet another great showing in net. I take my hat off to you Coleman for that blast from the blue line and in the net.  I know it may not have counted due to time restrictions but we the fans and all the players saw it!  Thank-you to all the coaches and players of both teams for all the effort you put in to this very exciting season opener.  Best of luck to both teams when we meet up again tomorrow, Sunday Oct.16th at 9:30 am sharp!  P.S. Thanks boys for making me make some noise with the COW BELL!!!!
